Greg Sanders wins State Match Play title

In a tense battle at Settlers Bay on Sunday, Greg Sanders edged Adam Baxter in a playoff to win the State Match Play tournament, put on by the Alaska Golf Association.

Sanders was three up at one point in the match, but Baxter won four straight holes to gain a 1-up lead. He still led 1-up at 18, which some consider the toughest hole in Alaska. Sanders made a 20-foot birdie putt at that hole to square the match.

Baxter and Sanders both piped drives down the fairway at the first hole, which served as the first playoff hole. Sanders hit the green with his approach, but Baxter lost his approach to the left and found a spot of bother in the trees. The resulting double bogey lost Baxter the match.
