Can new equipment actually improve your game?

Taking a little break from the Alaska commentary, I noticed a big advertisement today for new clubs of all sorts. I believe the ad was for an article rating the newest equipment. It’s always fun to think about a new club or two; there’s nothing like holding that brand new stick in your hand, but will it help you score better?

The answer is almost certainly no. Clubs are never the way to improve your game. Look back on your past and ask yourself if there was ever a time that new driver helped you score better. I see a lot of people buy new drivers each year and they often say they hit the ball further, but I don’t see it. Everyone hits it about the same distance every year.

New equipment helps us reset our mind for a new season, maybe erase a few of the demons that reside in the old equipment. It’s one thing if your old equipment is worn out and needs replacing, but new stuff for the sake of new isn’t always a necessary move. If you have the money to spend, however, new equipment is always a fun way to get the season started, something we Alaskans have a chance to do in four or five months.
