Ranking Bandon Dunes’ courses

Ranking the golf courses at Bandon Dunes is a silly task, but everyone who has been there tends to have a favorite or two of the five tracks. People who learn I have been there tend to ask of my favorites, so I thought it would make a good blog post as I sit here in zero-degree Alaskan weather.

The best way for me to begin to describe all the courses is rank them on a scale of one to 10. If I did that, I would give them all a 9.999. So, that gives you some idea of how razor-thin the differences are.

Still, I can definitively rank them as follows:

Old Mac

Bandon Trails

Sheep Ranch

Bandon Dunes

Pacific Dunes

My list is based entirely on how I felt while playing the round. Score had nothing to do with it, nor did how well I swung the club that particular day. My grading system comes down to my gut feeling. What course did I feel the most serene as I walked and swung?

I won’t detail each course here. I’ll perhaps touch on that in a different post someday. I’ll just reiterate, the courses are amazing and you can’t go wrong with any of them, but if someone placed a gun to my head and forced me to rank them, that’s the way I would go.
