Qualifier coming to a theater near you in 2017

It was 37 degrees outside this morning and raining, but that won’t stop Alaskans from holding their U.S. Open qualifier on Wednesday at Palmer.

There are 12 dreamers lined up to battle the fuzzy greens and yellow fairways for a chance to play in the U.S. Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin next month. The winner of Wednesday’s 18-hole qualifier will advance a regional qualifying site in the Lower 48 and then to the U.S. Open if they can play well enough.

Jordan Miller played well enough last year to win the local qualifier, but didn’t advance through the regional stage. Miller is back to make another attempt, along with Anchorage Open champ Aaron Roth and two-time state-am champ Adam Baxter.

Joining those top Alaskans will be five others from in state and four out-of-towners. Noticeably absent is local pro Rob Nelson, who is still a professional for 2017.

Tee times are as follows:

11:20am
Aaron Roth – Anchorage, AK
Paul Smith – Jber, AK
Horacio Leon – Jupiter, FL
