Your chance to become No. 1, or just an AGB Open champion

The inaugural AGB Open will be the latest in tournament experiments from the Alaska Golf Blog. It is open to everyone, up to the first 48 who sign up for the June 16 event at Anchorage Golf Course. The winner of the 18-hole stroke-play event will become the No. 1 golfer in the AGB rankings.

If you don’t win, you still have a chance to move up in the rankings. If your score is lower than any ranked player in the field, you will move ahead of that player on the list.

In addition to playing for your rank, you will have incentive to beat the players in your foursome. The winner from each foursome will be interviewed at the conclusion of the round and featured on akgolfblog.com. There will also be a small prize for the winner of each foursome.

I will create all the pairings based on my knowledge of each players’ skill set, not necessarily by handicap. There will be no net prizes of any sort. Seniors will play yellow tees at AGC, women will play red tees. The rest will play tees that suit their game, either white, blue or black. More on the rules as we get close to the event.

There is no entry fee. All you have to do is check in like normal and pay your green fees. The first tee time will be 9 a.m., June 16 at AGC. The underlying idea behind the tournament is to give some no-name players a chance to prove themselves for a day, a chance to be a former greens keeper with a Cinderella Story.

To register, just get a hold of me any way you know how. Registration ends Friday, June 8th at 5 p.m.
