First round of the season was a good start

Golf season finally started in Alaska last weekend. We were lucky to have nice weather. Lots of sunshine, a little wind and a temperature around 50 degrees on a Sunday afternoon is about as good as it gets for Alaskans in April.

With no driving range open, my warm up consisted of a few chip shots and putts. The greens were still really shaggy, however, so practice putting didn’t last long. When I teed up my first ball in six months, I belted it long and straight, right on target. My ensuing wedge shot was also right on the mark and I nearly birdied the first hole.

The second hole included another perfect tee shot, followed by a poor approach. The long story made short is I hit the ball really well for 12 holes considering the long wait throughout the winter. My main focus was just on my aim, making sure the club face was always pointed at the target at address and making sure I found a simple, consistent way to aim my body. I did so by using the same method I use when I putt, a method I can’t put into words at this time. Maybe another time I’ll give it a try.
